An Amazon suspension is the most stressful moment in a seller's life — revenue stops overnight. But panic produces bad decisions: rushed appeals are the #1 reason cases drag on. Here's the calm, correctly ordered playbook.
First: why were you suspended?
The notification (Performance > Account Health) states the reason. The most common:
- Performance metrics: high order-defect, late-shipment or cancellation rates
- Authenticity concerns: cases where invoices / supply-chain documents are requested
- Policy violations: review manipulation, variation abuse, restricted products
- Account linkage: association with a previously closed account
- Verification: inconsistencies in identity/address/bank documents
An appeal written without diagnosing the reason is a punch thrown blindfolded.
How to write the Plan of Action
Amazon wants an action plan, not an apology letter. Three sections, short and bulleted:
- 1. Root cause: state honestly, with ownership, why it happened. "Amazon is wrong" prolongs the case — root-cause analysis is the maturity signal Amazon looks for.
- 2. Corrective actions: what you *have done* (past tense): refunded orders, updated listings, removed products.
- 3. Preventive actions: *permanent systemic changes* that stop recurrence: a new supplier-verification process, stock buffers, daily metric checks.
Short paragraphs plus bullets; describe process, not emotion. If documents are requested (supplier invoices etc.), attach them complete and legible — names/addresses on invoices must match your account details exactly.
What to avoid
- Firing off an angry appeal in the first 24 hours — the first appeal is your most valuable shot; don't waste it
- Resending the same text — every rejection requires a revised POA
- Opening a new account — linkage detection risks a permanent ban; the worst possible move
- Big upfront payments to "guaranteed reinstatement" consultants — nobody can guarantee it
Realistic expectations
Simple verification issues can resolve in days; authenticity/policy cases can take weeks and multiple POA revisions. Your FBA stock waits in the warehouse meanwhile — plan cash flow accordingly.
The best strategy: never get suspended
Watch the Account Health dashboard weekly, keep buffers above metric thresholds, archive supplier documents from day one, and track restricted-product lists. On our own brands, the account-health check is part of the weekly operations ritual — and we do the same for clients under Amazon consulting.
The takeaway
Suspension isn't death; it reverses with a correct diagnosis and a mature POA. Process over panic: read the reason, gather evidence, write the three-part plan, send the first appeal at full strength.
If your account is suspended now and you want a second pair of eyes on the case, get in touch — the first assessment call is free.
