Makers and founders with a product but no online sales experience

The product is good — everyone says so. You just don't know where the online part starts.

Your Product Is Ready But You Have No Digital Experience

Does this look familiar?

  • Everyone says "you should sell online" but nobody says where to begin
  • Every video you watch presents a different method as the only right one
  • Amazon, Etsy or your own store — you can't decide, so nothing starts
  • You're wary of taking a wrong step and losing money and time

The good news: it looks complex because nobody explains the order

E-commerce isn't hard, it's explained messily. Company setup, customs, shipping, ads, listings — all solved problems. The decisions that are actually yours number three: which product, which market, which channel. Everything else follows from those. So the first step isn't opening an account; it's answering those three with data.

The common mistake: paperwork before product

The most expensive beginner mistake is sinking months into company formation, a US LLC and trademarks before validating that the product sells. Those items may be real and necessary — but the right order is: validate the product, then build the structure. The reverse creates fixed costs for a product that may never sell.

The right sequence

  • 1. Be honest about the product: if unit cost (packaging included) exceeds ~30% of the selling price, nothing survives fees and freight.
  • 2. Validate demand: is your product actually searched for in the target market? Use data, not intuition.
  • 3. Choose the channel by product: searched standard product → Amazon. Handmade/personalizable → Etsy. Strong story + repeat purchase → your own store.
  • 4. Build only the structure you need: your existing company is usually enough to start; a US LLC enters when scale and payment rails demand it.
  • 5. Start small: one product, small stock, small ad budget. The first 90 days are for real data, not profit.
