Short answer: To sell on TikTok Shop US you need to be either an individual who lives in the US or a business whose primary address is in the US. TikTok's US seller guides require US residence for individual sellers, and for business sellers a US business address, a US-based business representative and US identity documents. There is currently no public cross-border route into the US shop for brands based outside the US and China, so the realistic path is a US entity, a US-based representative and US-based inventory. As of 14 October 2026, TikTok's seller page lists a 6% commission on each sale and no setup fee.
This picks up where our guide on where TikTok Shop is open left off: that piece covers the ten European markets announced in May 2026. Here we focus on the US and walk through what TikTok's own US seller pages actually require.
Who can apply?
TikTok Shop Academy, TikTok's US seller education site, splits applicants into individual sellers and business sellers (sole proprietorships, corporations and partnerships). The region must be set to "US" at sign-up, and products stay hidden until document verification is complete.
- Individual sellers: must be 18 or older and reside in the US. Accepted IDs are a US passport or passport card, US driver's license, state ID or Permanent Resident Card, plus the last four digits of an SSN, or an ITIN if there is no SSN.
- Corporations and partnerships: the primary business address must be in the US. Every owner and representative must be 18 or older, and the primary representative provides the last four digits of an SSN or an ITIN. Ultimate beneficial owners (anyone holding 25% or more) must be disclosed.
- US business representative: TikTok defines this as someone based in the US who is authorized to conduct business on the company's behalf — a separate role from the owner.
- Foreign owners: TikTok's document guide FAQ says a non-US passport can be submitted for UBO verification. The ID types listed for representatives, however, are US documents.
- Politicians: governments, politicians and political parties may not become sellers.
TikTok's general help article sums up the principle: you must reside in the country you choose for your shop.
Is there a cross-border route into the US?
TikTok Shop Global Selling, the program for sellers outside a market, shows only two US registration doors: "For US companies" and "For Chinese companies". No other origin country has its own US entry. TikTok's US Seller Shipping guide also states that it covers domestic US logistics only and that cross-border orders are not currently permitted on the US platform.
In practice, a brand based elsewhere enters TikTok Shop US through a US structure shipping from US stock. If you're unsure whether a US entity makes sense at all, start with our do I need a US company test.
1. Set up the US structure
Business applications ask for a US business address, the tax form that matches your entity type and, if requested, an IRS EIN notice. Our US LLC formation guide covers state choice, EIN and the annual filings for foreign-owned LLCs.
Documents TikTok may request:
- ID: valid, unexpired, uncropped, under 10 MB in PDF, JPG or PNG. Screenshots and paper IDs are rejected.
- EIN proof (if requested): an IRS 147C, 252C or CP 575 notice. IRS website screenshots, SS-4 applications and tax returns are not accepted.
- Proof of address (if requested): a utility bill, bank or credit card statement, or insurance policy matching the address you entered.
- Tax form: W-9 for US sellers, W-8 for non-US sellers. You can list and sell without tax documents only until you earn $2,000.
- Letter of authorization: when the representative applying is not the owner.
Business and personal details cannot be changed after submission, so make sure names and addresses match across every document. TikTok displays the seller's business address on product pages; if you enter a residential address, tick "Certify" so only a partial address is shown.
2. Choose a fulfillment model
TikTok's US logistics overview lists three options:
- Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT): you send inventory to TikTok-operated US warehouses; TikTok handles storage, packing and last-mile delivery.
- TikTok Shipping: you ship from your own warehouse or a 3PL using TikTok labels. Its Collection by TikTok option offers free daily pickup in eligible ZIP codes (Greater LA, East Coast, Texas).
- Seller Shipping: you ship with carriers of your choice, if eligible.
3. Meet dispatch and delivery rules
Per TikTok's US Fulfillment Policy and late dispatch pages:
- Dispatch: since 26 January 2026, regular orders must reach "In Transit" within 2 business days, with a carrier scan inside that window.
- Delivery: regular orders must be marked "Delivered" within 6 business days of Awaiting Shipment.
- Tracking: every order needs a valid tracking number; orders without tracking within 5 business days are auto-cancelled.
- Late dispatch rate: above 10%, enforcement applies — Account Health Rating deductions, order volume limits and extended settlement periods. Carrier delays still count against the seller.
FBT orders are exempt from late dispatch because TikTok handles the shipping.
4. Consider FBT
According to TikTok's FBT Rate Card & FAQ (updated 13 July 2026), FBT fulfillment fees are charged per unit and cover pick, pack, packaging and last-mile shipping. Storage is free for the first 60 days. The same update raised eligibility to units of up to 150 lb with no side over 108 inches. Inventory can go to a single East or West hub or directly to multiple fulfillment centers. Per-unit rates depend on weight tier and units per order; check the current rate card in Seller Center.
Commission and fees
- Referral fee: as of 14 October 2026, TikTok's seller page lists a 6% commission on each sale and no setup fee. TikTok's fee article gives a 5–6% range by category and says the referral fee covers all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax.
- Calculation: rate × (customer payment + platform discount − tax), on completed orders only.
- Refund administration fee: 20% of the referral fee on refunds, returns and cancellations, capped at $5 per SKU since 15 May 2025.
Promotional rates appear from time to time (for example, LIVE auction orders between 1 October and 31 December 2026). Confirm the rate applied to your shop in Seller Center fee notices and settlement statements.
The affiliate (creator) program
TikTok's "Setting Up Affiliate Collaborations" article describes two models:
- Open collaboration: your products become visible to all TikTok Shop creators.
- Target collaboration: you invite specific creators for specific products; the target rate overrides the open rate.
The seller sets the commission, from 1% to 80%. Changes take effect after 5 days for target and 30 days for open collaborations. On the creator side, TikTok requires creators to be 18+ with 1,000+ followers.
Prohibited and restricted categories
TikTok's US Prohibited Products Policy (updated 9 October 2026) groups banned items under regulated goods (alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, drugs, weapons, hazardous items, some food), consumer safety (certain baby, beauty and safety products), illegal and high-risk goods (gambling, financial products), human safety and dignity (including adult products) and platform-prohibited commerce (jewelry, secondhand, services and virtual goods). Some of these open up for approved sellers who meet extra requirements — jewelry, for instance, if it meets TikTok's jewelry requirements. Violations can lead to listing removal, Account Health Rating deductions and loss of selling access. Check your category against the policy before applying.
Getting paid
TikTok pays out to the linked bank account after orders are completed and return windows have closed. Its settlement policy (updated 31 July 2026) works like this:
- New sellers start on an Introductory settlement tier; tiers are reviewed on the 1st of each month based on shop performance.
- A share of each delivered order's earnings is held in reserve for 30 days from delivery, then released.
- TikTok may change the payout schedule or reserve level at any time based on account status.
TikTok's public guides don't specify which banks are accepted. Our Mercury account guide covers opening a US business account for a foreign-owned LLC; confirm in Seller Center that TikTok accepts your account during registration.
FAQ
Can a non-US brand sell on TikTok Shop US? Not directly as a cross-border seller, unless it is a Chinese company: Global Selling offers US registration only for US and Chinese companies. Other brands enter through a business with a US primary address, a US-based representative and US-based inventory.
Is a US LLC enough to qualify? An LLC is an accepted entity type (Form 1040 for single-member, Form 1065 for multi-member). On its own it isn't enough: you also need a US business address, a representative with US ID and domestic US fulfillment.
What is the TikTok Shop US commission? As of 14 October 2026, TikTok's seller page lists 6% per sale; its fee article gives 5–6% by category. Affiliate commissions and FBT fees come on top.
How fast do orders have to ship? Regular orders must be In Transit within 2 business days and Delivered within 6 business days. FBT orders are exempt from the late dispatch rate.
When do payouts arrive? After delivery and the return window, to your linked bank account. New sellers start on the Introductory tier, and part of each order's earnings sits in reserve for 30 days from delivery.
The takeaway
Entering TikTok Shop US from abroad is a structure project, not a form: a US entity, a US-based representative, US stock (FBT or a 3PL), 2-business-day dispatch discipline and an affiliate commission budget.
