Selling into the UK

The UK is a mature, high-purchasing-power market you can serve with English content. Post-Brexit it runs its own rules apart from the EU (its own VAT regime), yet one language and one tax authority make it simpler to manage than Germany. Your US content works with light adaptation, lowering operating cost.

The market's character

UK buyers, much like Americans, expect fast delivery and easy returns; gifting and home/living categories are strong. Your English listings need only light adaptation from the US versions (units, local phrasing, £ pricing).

Channels

  • Amazon.co.uk: the market's center; the same brand infrastructure (Brand Registry) as your US account.
  • Etsy: the UK is among Etsy's strongest markets after the US; a natural target for handmade and personalized products.
  • eBay: still strong in the UK, especially for niche and collectible products.
  • Own store: opens at low marginal cost with English content and £ pricing.

Post-Brexit tax: the £135 threshold

The critical rule: for shipments under £135, UK VAT must be collected at the point of sale — requiring a UK VAT registration by the seller (or the marketplace). Marketplaces carry most of that burden on their sales; on your own store the registration is yours. Above £135, import VAT/duty falls to the buyer or to you via DDP — DDP is recommended to avoid doorstep surprises.

Logistics

Express shipments reach the UK fast (2–4 days). At volume, Amazon's UK warehouse or a local 3PL brings delivery and returns to local standards. Remember UK and EU stock are managed separately post-Brexit.
